An interview with Domo-Kun.
bHs: Hi. What are you?
Domo-kun: I am a great leader on my planet. I spread fear and joy everywhere I go. I am lightness and darkness.
bHs: Really?
Domo-kun: No. My planet is backward and full of petty little people who don't recognize greatness when it is sitting right in front them. That's why I came to Japan. They appreciate my sensitivity and nuanced understanding of life.
bHs: I thought you were the mascot for public television
in Japan? Sort of like Big Bird in the US. And there were elaborate
stories about how you hatched out of an egg and live with a wise
rabbit and there is a bat and you carry a television around on you
back.
Domo-kun: Yeah. What's your point? Do you not respect Big Bird? Ha! What a jerk!
bHs: Well, no, I do like Big Bird. But he is just a bird puppet.
Domo-kun: Bird puppet!?! Next you'll be telling me I'm just a little ball of fluff. It's people like you that sully the good name of humans.
bHs: Humans have a good name?
Domo-kun: Not any more. Thanks to you. Gar!
bHs: Eeeee! Your teeth are big!
Domo-kun: Exactly. Don't mess with me. I will show you the dark insides of my mouth and you will enjoy the light wit of my philosophical banter.
bHs: Okay. I will try to enjoy it.
Domo-kun: If you are the least of the humans, your brother is the greatest. You are the dark. He is the light. That which oppresses the planet, namely you, and crushes its soul is redeemed by Cameron's wise gaze.
bHs: You're just saying that because he brought you here from Japan. He's not the light and I'm not the dark.
Domo-kun: My child, you are too eager to deny. That which hurts us the most is the closest to our inner truth. Breathe. Pause. Look inward rather than outward to accuse the Domo-kun.
bHs: Huh. I'm not sure I'm enjoying this.
Domo-kun: Garrrrr, look inside my red mouth and see your terror.
bHs:
Damn, your breath smells.
Domo-kun: Well, I am an alien.
bHs: Hard to argue with that. Thank you, Domo-kun for sharing some of your wisdom with us. I'm sure we'll be back for more soon.
